Challenge

Our client, working in a complex warehouse environment, needed an efficient solution to help workers load packages onto forklifts. In the client’s logistics center, warehouse workers must load packages onto forklifts according to exact instructions from the SAP system, which sets the order of loading to balance the load. Workers using Zebra devices need constant access to SAP and must control specific lights on the forklift to show where each package goes. Previously, they had to keep switching between the SAP app and manually turning the lights on the forklifts, which slowed down the process and increased the chance of errors. We needed to create a solution that would let them control the lights directly from the SAP app, running smoothly even in the background.

Solution

We developed a dedicated mobile application that enables a smooth connection between the SAP system on Zebra devices and the Bluetooth technology controlling the forklifts. The application runs in the background, ensuring a stable connection with the forklift even when the user turns off the device screen or exits the app, a critical requirement for the client. The solution provides an intuitive interface that allows the operator to select lights on the forklift without leaving the SAP interface. The application monitors the Bluetooth status; if the Bluetooth connection is lost, it automatically attempts to reconnect and re-establish the connection with the device. This ensures continuous operation without requiring any intervention from the operator.The integration of SAP functions with the Bluetooth system was achieved using advanced technologies such as Jetpack Compose and Kotlin, enhancing the reliability and performance of the application in daily operations.

Results

The mobile application integrated the SAP system with Bluetooth technology, delivering a solution that streamlined the package loading process onto forklifts in a warehouse environment. This enhanced operational efficiency, reduced errors, and improved warehouse ergonomics, providing full support for loading activities in a dynamic warehouse environment.
